STAFF OF CHINESE GOLD MINING COMPANY DOCKED, REMAIN IN CUSTODY

Two staff of Chinese Gold Mining Company, Hongao Mining Company Limited were Tuesday arraigned by the police before an Upper Area Court Grade 1 in Mpape, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory .
They were charged with Obstruction of Civil Servants in the Discharge of their lawful duties, Resisting Arrest and Assault on Public Servants.
The duo Moses Smart Osita and Ezeilo Stanley were arrested by the police after destroying the seal placed on Hongao Mining company by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA.
They are to remain in custody pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
You may recall that the company was shut down by NESREA for polluting the stream in Kutasa, a community in the Federal Capital Territory.
Laboratory analysis of the water showed high concentration of Mercury and Lead. Briefing the Press on the sealing, the Director General of NESREA, Prof Aliyu Jauro said, “the concentration of Lead and Mercury is far above permissible limit and they do not have Effluent Treatment Plant to treat the waste water before discharging into the environment.”
