NESREA BOSS LAUDS MISSIONZEROPLASTIC INITIATIVE

The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, (NESREA), Prof Aliyu Jauro has praised the organisers of the MissionZeroPlastic for championing a zero plastic initiative.

MissionZeroPlastic is a programme by Aid for rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi) with funding from the Coca-Cola Foundation, aimed at promoting community recycling efforts in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Launch of the initiative, Prof Jauro said MissionZeroPlastic was in line with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Programme of NESREA which promotes recycling of waste.

The DG, who spoke through the Director Special Duties, Mr. Abdulsalam Isa disclosed that the EPR Programme was intended to achieve sustainable industrial development by ensuring that production processes incorporate realistic programmes for waste minimization through material recovery and recycling.

He expressed his delight that the MissionZeroPlastic would achieve the aim of EPR programme at the community level and create green jobs for youths and women.

Chief Executive Director, AREAi, Prince Godson Olarenwaju said the initiative was to curb plastic pollution in 6 states across the country through recovery and repurposing of 600 tons of PET bottles in 12 months.
