NESREA ACQUIRES CRIME RECORDS INFORMATION SYSTEM (CRIMS) TO TRACK ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA is set to deploy the Crime Records Information System (CRIMS) to tackle environmental crimes in the country.
Speaking during the training for staff on the use of CRIMS, the Director General of NESREA, Prof Aliyu Jauro praised the efforts of the Nigerian Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU) in coming up with such initiative to aid investigation of various crimes including environmental offences.
The DG who was represented by the Director, Environmental Quality and Control, Mr. S.B Joshua said the Agency would deploy CRIMS in investigation, inspection, compliance monitoring and assessment activities.
The Crime Records Information System (CRIMS) was developed by the NFIU through which financial institutions and designated non-financial institutions and businesses submit suspicious transaction reports, currency transaction reports and foreign currency transaction reports.
