World Environment Day 2017 Celebration
The Honourabe Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril says the ministry is poised to ensure that the environment sector becomes a major revenue earner for the country.
The minister made this known during the commemoration of the 2017 edition of the World Environment Day held at the Sarius Palmetum Garden, Abuja.
Alhaji Jibril said “the environment sector through the eco-tourism industry should, as a matter of fact, contribute more towards the diversification of the economy more than the entertainment industry in Nigeria”.
He disclosed that the Ministry was working extra hard with “ relevant institutions to facilitate the engagement of women and youth driving the implementation of activities in the sector to explore additional funds and investment opportunities provided by this government in the on-going social intervention programmes in order to stem unemployment”
He said government remains unrelenting in efforts to address the concerns of climate change, drought and desertification, biodiversity loss, deforestation, land degradation, flood and erosion, pollution, sanitation and waste management, etc in the country.
